29/04/2015 -Imberhorne News – 2015 Election Special

Vote 4 Change

The future’s bright. The future’s Labour. For a secure, positive future, vote Labour on Thursday 7 May – to give real power to the community in Imberhorne ward on our District and Town Councils and in Parliament.

Voters have three ballot papers – one for Parliament, one for Mid Sussex District Council and one for East Grinstead Town Council. Please vote for the Labour candidate on each paper.

Tess Fensterheim

Labour candidate for Mid Sussex District Council and East Grinstead Town Council

Tess Fensterheim lives with her family in Imberhorne ward. She has two grown up daughters.

Tess has worked as a housing caseworker for three local authorities in the homelessness team. She has experience of working with people who need council help, making day to day decisions about what the Council has a duty to provide within tight budget controls. She has also worked for several independent housing advice organisations including Shelter, challenging council or court decisions. She knows about the impact of essential council services on our lives. Tess is a community volunteer and has seen the growth of employment insecurity locally and in her own employment. She will fight for local services – in particular ensuring adequate affordable housing for local people both at local and at the far away District Council.

Tess will fight for improvements to our public transport services – unlike some representatives, she uses public transport every day.

Greg Mountain

Labour Parliamentry Candidate for Mid Sussex.

A unique blend of experience, knowledge and compassion for other people.

Greg Mountain is asking Mid Sussex people to vote for him at this year’s General Election and make him their first Labour Member of Parliament. After living for 32 years in a constituency dominated by Conservative politicians he says that many issues he and local people have faced arise from the uncaring complacency inherent in that domination. He now wants to ensure that in the next five years Mid Sussex becomes a better place to live and work for everyone not just a privileged few.

Until he retired from public service Greg’s career prevented him from taking an active part in national politics. But he experience would be invaluable as a future MP.

Greg used his Economics degree to teach economics for five years. But the uncaring approach of Thatcher’s government convinced Greg he should qualify as an accountant and work for the National audit Office. There he encouraged public organisations to deliver better quality services to people in the United Kingdom and abroad. As a result of insights from working abroad Greg is proud we now have a law binding us to supporting the foreign aid budget. And in common with many UK businesses he’s convinced that we should stay in the European Union and reform it from within.

Greg went on to advise senior officials and Ministers in different Governments on subjects like the fairer and more efficient collection of taxes. He also advised local authorities and government departments on how to deliver better quality public services, such as Housing Benefit and the Police’s 101 hotline.

In his leisure time Greg has played for, managed and coached a number of our local football and rugby teams. His late wife Sue was a Labour Party activist in Haywards Heath and a national trade union officer. His sons were educated locally and represented Mid Sussex schools at Football and Sussex County at rugby and cross country. The Mountain family has loved being part of Mid Sussex community life for over 30 years.

Labour – Working for East Grinstead

East Grinstead Branch of the Labour Party started meeting regularly in 2010, and has been developing since then. Although East Grinstead members keep in touch with events throughout Mid Sussex through our links with Labour’s Sussex constituency party, our main interest locally has been the future of the town itself.

We stood candidates for the Town Council first in 2011, and again at the Town North by-election last year. In between we have kept a watching brief on council affairs, and in particular the development of the Neighbourhood Plan.

In mid-2012 East Grinstead Labour published its own proposals for a Town Plan. After that, we were happy to contribute positively, along with a range of other local stakeholders, to the consultation by the Town Council’s working group that developed the East Grinstead Neighbourhood Plan.<.p>

Tory controlled Mid Sussex District Council failed 18 month ago to have its District Plan adopted because, unlike neighbouring councils, they did not follow clear and reasonable requirements in the Localism Act that their own party introduces. This leaves East Grinstead without the protection it would give against inappropriate development, and the developers’ open season on Mid Sussex continues.

Labour Councillors at Town and district level will work to achieve:

Labour’s pledges to you on 7 May

Labour stands for respect and dignity for all.

Labour wants everyone to have a share in the British and local economy.

Labour wants you to have the choice to develop your life, your talents and those of your relatives.

So Labour’s pledges to you include:
