02/11/2016 - National Pensioners Convention Rally and Lobby of Parliament

Brian Sturtevant Chairman of East Grinstead Labour Party attended the NPC Rally and Lobby of Parliament on Wednesday 2 November 2016.

A packed committee room heard Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell MP assure worried Pensioners that the next Labour government would keep the triple lock for the protection of the value of pensions. He also assured everyone that Labour would invest in the Care and Homecare services and bring them back into local authority control to ensure decent conditions for elderly people who now feel abandoned by the present system.

The NPC says "In recent years, there have been numerous claims that Britain’s older generation has escaped austerity at the expense of the young. This view is both inaccurate and divisive. Today’s battles on behalf of pensioners will benefit future generations, and equally, pensioners must stand alongside today’s workers in defence of their jobs, pensions and the right to a decent period of retirement."
